Family Outreach Center offers a variety of classes to assist individuals and families with parenting and life skills.
Confident Parenting: teaches parents techniques related to rule and limit setting, mild social disapproval, praise, time-out and special incentive programs. Ten (10) week, two (2) hour series of classes.
Effective Black Parenting: in addition to the parenting skills listed in Confident Parenting, Effective Black Parenting teaches parents of African-American children how to shape their child’s self-image, become healthy, proud, and capable people. Ten (10) week, two (2) hour series of classes.
Anger-Management: teaches participants how to recognize and appropriately express their anger. Eight (8), one and a half (1 1/2) series of classes.
Substance Use Prevention: youth groups and individual adult presentations are provided to Kent County residents about the benefit of talking sooner to youth about the risk of using alcohol, tobacco and other drugs. Groups, six (6) weeks, One and a half (1 ½) hours series classes.
The Prevention classes have varying requirements for eligibility. If you are interested in participating in a class please call our office to allow us to assist you with getting into the right class to meet your need.
